The commemorative Five Pounds coin features an elegant profile portrait of Diana by David Cornell, FRBS and was one of a number of designs submitted to the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, who approve all UK coin designs. The obverse displays the new portrait of Her Majesty the Queen which appears on all UK coins minted from January 1998 and is the work of the sculptor Ian Rank Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD.
The coin is displayed in a stylishly illustrated presentation folder which reflects the 1ife and work of Diana, Princess of Wales. It makes a most elegant gift or keepsake as a lasting reminder of the Princess.
Diana, Princess of Wales commemorative coin is struck in cupro-nickel to Brilliant Uncirculated quality and is housed in its own elegant presentation folder and slipcase.
An embossed image of a rose, now a recognized symbol of Diana, fills the front cover of the slipcase. The inner folder which holds the coin contains some beautiful photographs of the Princess reflecting her charismatic personality and her compassion for the young, sick and elderly. A fitting selection of tributes and quotations from the Queen and Earl Spencer completes the presentation, making it the perfect reminder of the Princess.
Also included is a beautiful card with a lovely rose, Diana, Princess of Wales in Gold lettering and a touching poem about time and love.
The proceeds from the sale of this commemorative coin will go to fund permanent memorials recommended by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Committee, a committee appointed by British Prime Minister Tony Blair. This is the first time a British legal tender coin has ever been used for this purpose.

The coin features the images of the Charles and Diana on the reverse along with the words, H.R.H The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer and 1981. The traditional image of Queen Elizabeth II is on the front.
It measures 38.61 millimeters (about the size of a US silver dollar).
